A scientist named Robert Hooke, in 1600s looked through microscopes at a slice of cork. There he managed to notice that dead wood, was designed out of very tiny compartments and on prolonged study he named those respective compartments as cells. Since then, “cells” started to enter the scientific methodology. The cells present in the cork are empty, because the respective living matter that once was placed there have died, and left behind very tiny pockets of air. How to prepare the microscope slide:
The first thing that you need to do is cut a very thin slice of cork by using a specially designed blade (very thin slice) in order to see it better with the microscope. In order to make the mount of the cork a bit wet, you should place a drop of water in the center of the glass slide. Furthermore carefully set the respective slice of the cork on top of the water (you might want to use tweezers). Afterwards take one cover slip and hold in the right angle, so that the edge touches the water droplet on the surface. This is one simple experiment that you can perform.
